On the East Side of Austin (East of I-35) are an increasing number of homes with modern stylings. A bunch of these are within the Mueller Redvelopment (aka Mueller Development Area) at the old Robert Muller Municipal Airport, south of 51st and North of Manor Road. A bunch of other modern homes, however, are popping up in the adjacent Austin east side neighborhoods near (but not in) Mueller. Sometimes these homes are built on empty lots but more frequently they are built on the site of older homes that had reached the end of their economic life (aka, tear downs). Some of them look like they belong in the Nine Sixy Nine (969) Subdivision, but are instead perhaps the only one on a street filled with older, sometimes much older and smaller homes.
These four are near MLK and Airport Boulevard, two of them are for sale (but not by me). They’re posted here for the pleasure of those who like to look at modern homes, and for those thinking of building a home with modern flair and who are looking for design (divine?) inspiration.
